Privacy notice

This explains in plain language what NineReco stores, who can see it, and how you stay in control.

What is public

Anyone can browse public recommendations without an account. A public recommendation shows its text, category, optional city, link, tags, date, like and favorite totals, and its author's public name. Search engines may index public recommendations and the pages of members who have several of them.

Your public name is your username (never your email) unless you choose to show a display name, photo and bio in Account & privacy.

Who sees what you share

  • Public: everyone, including search engines.
  • Followers only: people who follow you (and, if your account is private, whom you approved).
  • Friends only: people who are your friends (friendship is mutual).
  • Private: only you.

You can change this for each recommendation at any time and it takes effect immediately. A private account hides your recommendations from non-followers and keeps your profile out of search engines. Blocking someone ends any follow or friendship and hides non-public content from them. Recommendations that existed before these options were introduced were never made public automatically; they stay protected until you choose.

What we keep privately

  • Your account email and sign-in details (handled by our authentication provider).
  • Optional full name, city and country, visible only to you.
  • Your likes, favorites, follows, friends, blocks, notifications, collections and the reports you file.
  • Older optional details from earlier versions (such as address or date of birth) are not used or shown anywhere; you can delete them in your account settings.

We do not show anyone your email, full name, location or any of those older details, and we do not sell personal data.

Cookies and analytics

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in. With your permission we also use Google Analytics to count visits and see which features are used. Analytics events contain no names, emails, usernames, profile details or search terms, and nothing is sent unless you allow it. You can change your mind at any time: .

The map

The map shows city centres where public recommendations exist; it never shows a member or an address. It uses OpenStreetMap, so loading it contacts OpenStreetMap's servers and they can see your IP address. We only load it after you press “Load the map”. City names from public recommendations are looked up once through OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to find the city centre.

Pictures

Pictures you add to a recommendation are shrunk in your browser, which also removes location and camera data. They are shown only to people who are allowed to see that recommendation, and are deleted with it.

Your rights

  • Access and portability: download your data from Account & privacy.
  • Correction: edit your profile and recommendations whenever you like.
  • Erasure: delete your account from Account & privacy. Your profile, photo, recommendations, likes, favorites, follows, friends and notifications are erased. If you choose, your public recommendations can stay as “Former member” with no link to you.
  • Objection and complaints: contact us using the form on the home page. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
